FAQ's

What’s in NoBu.gs® to make it Insect Repellent?

NoBu.gs® Insect Repellent Clothing and Gear is treated with Permethrin Insecticide which is tightly bonded to the fibers in the fabric.  It’s so tightly bonded that it is proven effective to 70 washing, exceeding the expected lifetime of most garments.

Who Recommends Permethrin-treated Clothing?

The following internationally recognized agencies actively encourage at-risk individuals to use permethrin-treated clothing as a protective measure against insect borne diseases.

  • The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
  • The World Health Organization (WHO)
  • National Institute for Occupational Health and Safety
  • American Academy of Family Physicians
  • The Public Health Agency of Canada

Is the Insect Repellent used on the products Safe?

Yes, it can be used by the entire family, with no restrictions for use.

Does the Insect Repellent Smell?

No, the clothes and gear smell like any other item, it’s both odorless and invisible.

What Insects are repelled by NoBu.gs® products?

NoBu.gs® products repel biting insects including mosquitos, fleas, flies, ticks, ants, chiggers and midges (no-see-ums).  Some of these insects carry diseases such as Lyme Disease, Malaria, Zika, West Nile and Dengue.  Extensive testing has been conducted to prove the effectiveness of the repellency including insects that carry these diseases.

How much protection is provided by NoBu.gs® clothing?

A small item provides less repellency than a larger one. You may need to adjust the amount of NoBu.gs® apparel you wear, depending on the number of biting insects that are present. For example you may want to keep the sleeves down instead of being rolled up, or pair socks with pants.  Topical repellent can be used for exposed skin, and is especially recommended for heavily infested locations.

How long will NoBu.gs® protection last?

The repellency of NoBu.gs®with Insect Shield is EPA-registered to last through 70 launderings, the expected lifetime of a garment. This is also well beyond the life of most performance fabric finishes commonly used in the technical-apparel industry. NoBu.gs® Gear remains effective through 6 months of exposure to weathering, or through 25 launderings for machine washable items.

What does UPF 50+ mean?

UPF stands for Ultra Violet Protection Factor.  Items marked with UPF 50+ means the item will block 98% of the harmful ultra violet rays that come from the sun.  UPF 50+ is the highest rating of the 3 categories and means “excellent” protection from harmful UV rays.  Our clothing have innate UPF features, there are no chemicals used to create the effect.

What does Cooling or Temperature Regulating mean?

We use the best performance fabrics on the market.  We custom order our yarn and keep them in stock to ensure consistency at the highest quality.  Our yarn is infused with natural cooling elements which pull moisture away from the body and reduce core body temperature.  However, when you are not sweating our fabric works great as a layered item as well.  In the warm weather, we recommend our clothing as the only layer you wear.  In the cooler months, we recommend our clothing as the top layer.  It’s important that our clothing be the top layer to maximize the effectiveness of the insect repellency.

What are the benefits of NoBu.gs® Insect Repellent clothing over other insect protection?

Our clothing puts insect repellent near your skin not on it, and the protection is invisible.  The repellency is long lasting, no reapplication is needed.

How do I care for my NoBu.gs® Clothing?

There are no special requirements for washing or drying.  Simply treat NoBu.gs® products like any other, machine wash and dry. However, please do not dry clean as this will reduce the effectiveness of the insect repellent.

Is NoBu.gs® EPA approved?

NoBu.gs® uses partner brand, Insect Shield® technology to treat our products.  Insect Shield® is registered with EPA as well as Internationally recognized groups around the globe to ensure standards are being legally met.

What does EPA registration mean?

The EPA registration process is designed to evaluate a proposed product to ensure it will not have adverse effects on people or the environment. Insect Shield® products have been rigorously evaluated on multiple levels, the chemistry, the application process and the final consumer product.
